Next year’s DTM events will be getting an extra dosage of the Audi TT.

At each of the six DTM events in Germany and neighboring countries next season, two Audi Sport TT Cup races are planned, fielding 24 cars in a dedicated racing series for the German automaker’s sports car. Six race cars will be reserved for changing guest drivers and interested drivers can apply worldwide for the other 18 slots starting now. According to Audi, the multi-stage selection process will involve the cooperation of the Audi driving experience.

The Audi TT cup race car weighs in at a scant 2,480 lbs and will have 310 hp, but with a so-called push-to-pass function, the 2.0-liter TFSI engine can briefly see a boost of 30 hp. The winner of the Audi TT cup will receive support in Audi’s successful GT3 sports car program.

“The Audi TT is an icon and continues to epitomise powerful sportiness and emotional design in what is now its third generation,” says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of Audi’s Board of Management for Technical Development. “For me it was clear that a driving machine like the new Audi TT belongs on the race track as well. With the Audi Sport TT Cup we have found an exciting approach. The TT is going to thrill fans and drivers.”
